Blues Boss Maresca Rejects Man City Speculation as Pure Gossip
Chelsea gaffer Enzo Maresca has labelled recent reports linking him with a move to Manchester City as nothing but hearsay.
The Italian manager, who once served as Pep Guardiola's right-hand man in Manchester, addressed the ongoing speculation about his next move.
Maresca, named Chelsea manager in June 2024, is under contract that runs until 2029, with a potential extension available.
"It doesn't bother me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca said. "And at this moment, there is no time for such distractions."
He further elaborated, Primarily, because I have a contract here for several more years. And my focus, I have stated many times, is solely on this club and I'm honoured to be here. But again, it's speculation. One week ago I was connected to Juventus in Italy. So I ignore it because I know that is not true."
Chelsea, presently placed in fourth position in the top flight, are set to face Newcastle United on Saturday in a lunchtime kick-off.
Strain Following Previous Remarks
Maresca's most recent comments follow in the wake of he described a previous 48-hour period as his most difficult since joining Chelsea.
Those initial words had sparked widespread talk of a possible disagreement between the coach and the club's ownership hierarchy.
When asked if he had discussed matters with the club's sporting directors, Maresca responded, "We are in the same building, so we talk about different things. But about the post-Everton press conference, no."
The Italian did confirm he would definitely stay at the club next season and urged the fans to keep backing the team".
In more positive news, Maresca indicated that injured forwards Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could return ahead of schedule, potentially in contention for a fixture against Aston Villa on 27 December.

The perceived strain between Maresca and the club's hierarchy persists as an open wound that continues to create unease.
