Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Fans can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
