Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
