Tragic News on UPS Incident: Fatalities Rises to 13

The total count of fatalities from the freight aircraft which ignited and crashed has now risen to 13, per official statements.

Official's Statement

“On my way to the Union’s vigil, I was informed of a 13th person that lost their life as a consequence of the plane crash,” wrote the city mayor in a public communication. “My prayers are with the families, companions and co-workers of all who were killed in this week’s calamity. We will endure this together.”

Victims Named

A statement from the carrier named the pilots operating the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies go out to every employee who has been impacted and everyone in our local community – assisting you and making sure you obtain the attention and resources you need is our main concern,” the firm’s communication read.

Probe Details

National investigators announced that the freight aircraft’s left wing caught fire and an engine detached soon after liftoff from the aviation hub, leading to the aircraft to plummet and erupt into a inferno.

The NTSB stated it is probing the jet’s upkeep logs, which was in Texas for repairs weeks prior to the crash.

Aircraft information showed the plane was on the tarmac in that location from the start of last month to mid-October.

“We are cognizant that this aircraft was located in that city,” remarked an NTSB member on later, without providing a exact date range. “We will look at every piece of service that was performed, from the San Antonio time, all the way to the time of the journey.”

Retrieval of Key Evidence

The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were retrieved, and the motor was found on the airfield.

The recorders – known as black boxes – were built to withstand accident forces and severe fire from infernos, and they appeared to be in one piece when discovered amid the crash debris. Officials plan on analyzing information from the recorders.

Jet’s last data recordings showed an height of that level and a speed of 210 miles per hour before the impact.

Service History

Per FAA files from 18 September, a crack on a component inside the fuel container needed repairs.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which said it provides structural repairs for the carrier’s MD-11 and manages a service location in that city, declined to provide remarks, but expressed it would assist completely when investigators approached it.

Services Resume

In the meantime, the facility activities continued Wednesday night with its Next Day Air or night sort procedure, representative Jim Mayer said. All three runways at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were likewise back in operation.

The sorting center in Louisville is the organization’s biggest. The hub engages more than twenty thousand people in the region, processes three hundred aircraft daily and processes more than a huge volume of items an hour.

Local Reaction

A candlelight vigil was conducted on the late afternoon of 6 November by the local labor union, which acts for employees at the aviation hub, the firm’s primary air cargo hub.

The union chapter, which supports employees, commenced the memorial with a quiet tribute at 5.14pm, the approximate moment of the incident two days earlier.

“This incident was so abrupt, so unforeseen,” the official spoke to the crowd of two hundred. “No one had a moment to bid farewell to any one of those who we have said farewell to.”
